The FSH test measures the level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in your blood. This hormone is produced by the pituitary gland in your brain. In women FSH stimulates the production of eggs and is important in the regulation of menstruation. In men FSH stimulates the production of sperm. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced by the pituitary gland. Along with other hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone and estrogen), LH helps regulate the menstrual cycle in women and causes ovulation to occur. LH is usually measured in both a man and a woman to determine why the couple cannot achieve pregnancy (infertility).
Recommended for: Women who are having difficulty getting pregnant or are having irregular menstrual periods; Men who have a low sperm count, low muscle mass or decreased sex drive; Those who have symptoms of a pituitary or hypothalamic disorder
